5 Things You Need To Know Today—Wednesday, April 6

Moms Talk discusses toy guns; sports teams in action; art demonstration tonight.

Today is Wednesday, April 6 and here are today's five fast facts:

I got sunshine in a bag: It'll start off sunny, but clouds will roll in along with the breeze and there's a chance of showers in the early evening. Otherwise, it'll be a high near 53 today and a low around 34.

Kids with guns: That's today's topic on Moms Talk—toy guns, to be exact. The weekly column, which runs every Wednesday, has been moved to noon. Pop in to read our Moms Council's members thoughts on the topic of toy weapons and weigh in with your own thoughts in the comments section.

We be the colors of the mad and the wicked: Those are some wicked colors (see picture). That's "Blue Spin," a painting by Adria Arch, the Education Director at Arlington Center for the Arts and the artist who will be talking about painting in tonight's free art demonstration at the Milano Senior Center. Demo starts at 7 p.m.

With lightning fast reflexes on constant alert: Melrose High School sports teams will show off their reflexes and alertness today in two home games. The Lady Raiders tennis squad will take on Belmont, while the Red Raiders baseball team plays Swampscott.

Come on shake and bake do whatever it takes: Mmm. Shake 'n Bake. And I helped! Thinking about what to eat today? Here are daily specials around Melrose:

  • Busy Bee Bakery: Soup—Cream of Mushroom; Lunch—Thanksgiving sandwich; Dinner—Chicken breast with Squash, Stuffing and Gravy.
  • Do you own a Melrose eatery? E-mail your daily specials to danield@patch.com by 6 p.m. and we'll include them in next morning's Good Morning Melrose.

(No, I don't know why it's all Gorillaz links today. Just the mood I'm in. Let's end on one that makes me happy.)

As always, check our calendar for the full slate of events (and add your own).

One can't have too many Gorillaz links in one day, and I look forward to the "Lady Raiders tennis squad" track on their next album.

I love the live performance of Dirty Harry with all the kids.
