Escape: Get on the Bandwagon...Er, Truck.

Yet another tasty food truck festival rolls into the neighborhood.

We had initially suspected that food trucks would fade away into only middling popularity, like the lychee martini or truffle-oil popcorn, but so far they’re showing impressive staying power. This Saturday, decide for yourself if all the hype over ordering food from a truck and then plunking down onto the nearest bench is worth it at the .

Taking place from noon to 5 p.m. at the historic East Boston racetrack, the meeting of Great Food Truck Minds and the People Who Love 'Em will feature a bevy of mobile restaurants. Think: Woodman's, with their ever-famous fried clams. Think: Grilled Cheese Nation (name speaks for itself). Think: homestyle, stick-to-your-ribs goodies from the Mobile Home truck; tender pulled meaty-goodness from the (new!) Redbones truck; and custom ice-cream sandwiches from the Frozen Hoagies truck. Then picture even more trucks, too numerous and too appetite-inducing to mention here.

If you’re the type who needs entertainment besides the wax-paper-wrapped grilled cheese in your lap, the festival is happy to oblige. The track will be running a live racing program, with both a six-furlough sprint and a race for three-year-old hometown (i.e., bred in the Bay States) horses. (Check the Suffolk Downs Web site for more details.)

If you crave mouth-watering temptation (and more info) before the big event, check out the Food Truck Festivals of New England Facebook page and imagine the feast awaiiting you on Saturday.
