Get Outside to Hike the Fells and See Otters

And then go inside to listen to an open mike, see popular female comedians and ice skate with your family.

 

Acoustic Open Mike

When/Where: Thursday, Jan. 5 from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. / Absolutely Fabulous, 454 Main St, Melrose

Why Go? Sign up at 7 to play after the host, Mike Walsh, finishes his 30 to 45 minute set. Musicians may play three to four original or cover songs, without drums.

Hike the Southern Fells

When/Where: Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. to noon / 68 S Border Rd, Medford

Why Go? Walk along the southernmost part of the Fells on the Skyline, Reservoir, and Cross Fells trails. At the end, there will be a visit to Pine Hill and Wright’s Tower, where the view includes Medford, Boston, and the Blue Hills in the distance. The trails are steep and rocky in places. Wear sturdy boots and bring at least a liter of water.

Awesome Otters at Stone Zoo

When/Where: Saturday, Jan. 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. / Stone Zoo, 149 Pond St, Stoneham

Why Go? See how otters cope with the cold weather. 

Admission: $8 for members/$10 for non-members. For families with more than one child, additional participating 3-4 year olds are $4 each.

Ice Skate in Medford 

When/Where: Saturday, Jan. 7 from 7 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. / Medford Youth Hockey, Girl's Hockey and Figure Skating 97 Locust St, Medford, MA 02155

Why Go? Take the family skating at the indoor rink.
