Melrose Bicyclist Dies In Vineyard Truck Accident

Death of 40-year-old Dina DeCecca still under investigation.

A Melrose woman died Tuesday afternoon on Martha's Vineyard after she lost control of her bicycle and fell into the path of an 18-wheeler, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

Dina DeCecca, 40, was riding a bicycle westbound on the sidewalk along State Road, a two-lane, double yellow line divided street not far from downtown Vineyard Haven, Sgt. Michael Popovics told Melrose Patch. DeCecca was traveling with a group of cyclists when the accident occurred, according to the Vineyard Gazette Online.

Meanwhile, a tractor trailer driven by 46-year-old Bruce O'Donnell of Oak Bluffs was also traveling west on State Road. Popovics said that for a reason still under investigation, at approximately 2 p.m., DeCecca lost control of her bicycle and fell under the trailer. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
