A 21-year-old Melrose woman is dead after being struck by two cars on Route 9 in Framingham Friday night.
Colleen Kelly was a senior and English major at Framingham State University, and she lived in Pierce Hall on campus.
The Melrose student died while trying to cross from Maynard Road to College Street. She made it halfway when she was struck in the eastbound lane and thrown into the westbound lane, where she was hit again.
The accident investigation is being handled by Framingham Police and the Massachusetts State Police reconstruction team.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Colleen’s family, friends and fellow students,” Framingham State University President Timothy J. Flanagan said. “This tragic loss is felt by the entire Framingham State community. I know we will all be relying on each other for support during this difficult time.”
The university has arranged the necessary counseling services for our students and employees. Framingham State counselors will be on campus throughout the weekend to help students cope with this sad loss.
“I urge students, faculty, and staff in need of support to visit our counseling center and speak with someone,” Flanagan said.
