The no. 14 ranked Watertown/Melrose girls' hockey team was eliminated from the playoffs Monday night, falling 2-0 to no. 19 ranked Arlington in the preliminary round of the Division 1 state tournament.
Watertown/Melrose finished the season with an overall record of 13-8-2.
Senior Carolyn Woodin scored both goals for Arlington. The Spy Ponders (12-8-1) advance to face No. 3 Westford (15-3-2) Thursday at Groton High School.
On Monday, at John Ryan Arena in Watertown, Woodin got things going Arlington’s way early, scoring just 1:36 into the game. Woodin’s first goal was assisted by senior Shannon Hickey and junior Meredith Gallagher.
Arlington then thwarted two Watertown/Melrose power plays late in the first period.
Late in the second, Woodin struck again. This time, senior Shannon Reilly and freshman Ysabella Campbell-Breen earned assists.
The Spy Ponders also hit the posts three times in the game.
Arlington’s Meredith Gilligan got the shutout in net.
