Alleged Copper Theft From Backyard Leads to Two Arrests

Tuesday, May 3, 2:43 p.m. A caller from Lake Avenue told Melrose Police that he found a couple of people in his backyard apparently trying to take scrap copper tubing from the yard and placing it into the backseat and trunk of a car, Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said. When officers arrived, the alleged thieves were still at the home and placed under arrest.

Dawn Camelia, 36, 961 Broadway, Apt. 3, Everett, was charged with larceny over $250 and Michael A. Maksou, 38, 67 Rand St., Revere, was charged with larceny over $250 and possession of a burglarious instrument.

Grove Street Home Broken Into, Cash Taken

Monday, May 2, 10:09 p.m. A Grove Street resident reported coming home and after going to check a certain room, noticed that some cash was missing from a drawer, DeCroteau said. They checked the back door and it appeared that the back door had been forced with some type of flat instrument. The detective bureau was notified and responded to process the scene; the incident remains under investigation.

Underage Drinkers Stopped With Red Plastic Cups on Main Street

Monday, May 2, 9 p.m. A patrolman saw two girls walking down Main Street near the intersection of Grove Street holding what appeared to be red plastic cups. Upon interview, the two girls—ages 20 and 17—"readily admitted they had a mixed beverage that contained alcohol," DeCroteau said.

The girls told the officer they came from a home on Lynde Street, to where the officer escorted the girls back and spoke with an adult resident at the home about the incident. No charges have been filed.

10:17 a.m. Caller reports he stopped two men taking a tub from a backyard on Willow Street. They left the area.

6:41 a.m. Caller from Indian Hill Lane found car had window smashed.

7:29 a.m. Damage to vehicle on Keniston Road.

7:55 a.m. Damage to vehicle on Lincoln Street.

Friday, May 6

12:19 a.m. Caller reports disturbance in Melrose-Wakefield Hospital emergency room.

5:56 p.m. Wallet found in shrubs on Woodcrest Drive.

7:06 p.m. Caller reports locating bicycle on Larrabee Street at Laurel Street.

7:31 p.m. Report of 15 youth with backpacks and a gallon of OJ going towards the golf course. Unable to locate, officer checked the area.

9:54 p.m. Caller reports threats.

Saturday, May 7

9:52 a.m. Walk-in report of harassment.

10:22 p.m. Caller reports a large group of youths running through backyards on Forest Street. Officer located that group; they will not be back in the area for the night.

11:12 p.m. Caller reports a loud group in parking lot on Franklin Street at Greenwood Street. Officer spoke with party renting hall, DJ will stop for the night as party is ending.

Sunday, May 8

10:24 a.m. Park Street resident reports car entered during night, sunglasses missing.

11:09 a.m. Caller from Elliott Street reports vehicle went through last night.

11:53 a.m. Vehicle broken into on Forest Street.

4:49 p.m. Caller reports two cars on Elliott Street were entered overnight, nothing removed.

5:57 p.m. Walk-in report of a break in a vehicle on Beech Avenue.

7:49 p.m. Caller reported possible drug activity in the back parking lot of Papa Gino’s. Sector two reports no drug activity. Woman eating soup.

8:31 p.m. Caller reported a larceny from his car on Lebanon Street.

8:31 p.m. Caller reports the glove box of her car on Park Street was gone through, just some small change missing.

Other Arrests and Summonses

Eric Chiu-Lin, 43, 251 North Ave., Weston, was arrested on Monday, May 2 on charges of OUI liquor, marked lanes violation and failing to stop/yield.

 

A 48-year-old Melrose man was issued a summons on Monday, May 2 on the charge of domestic assault and battery.

Francis V. Sammataro, 47, 450 Ferry St., Apt. 26, was arrested on Tuesday, May 3 on charge of unlicensed operation of a vehicle; number plate violation to conceal ID; uninsured vehicle; no inspection sticker; unregistered vehicle; and motorcycle equipment violation.

A 31-year-old Tewksbury woman was issued a summons on Wednesday, May 4 on charges of driving with a suspended license and a marked lanes violation.

A 29-year-old Wakefield man was issued a summons on Thursday, May 5 on the charge of driving with a suspended license.

A 30-year-old Revere woman was issued a summons on Saturday, May 7 on the charge of malicious destruction of property worth less than $250.

A 44-year-old Melrose man was issued a summons on Saturday, May 7 on the charge of assault and battery.

A 24-year-old Melrose woman was issued a summons on Sunday, May 8 on the charge of assault and battery.
