Update at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13

According to a WHDH blog post by Jeremy Reiner, it appears that less snow is expected to hit the Melrose area Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

"The reason being is for high pressure here in New England that will be slow to budge and that will force the storm to find another way---a path much farther south than the (blizzard) took," wrote Reiner. "...With that said, some patchy light snow/flurries will arrive around 11 (p.m. Wednesday) along (Route) 7 especially south of the (Massachusetts) Pike (and) linger for the rest of the night.

"A coating at most in the metro (region) to perhaps as much as 2 (inches) out on Cape Cod ... Couple of slick spots likely on the South Shore late (Wednesday night and) early (Thrusday) morning."

The Melrose region won't have much time to clear out the snow before another storm hits us. WHDH-TV is predicting three to six more inches of snow early Thursday morning.

WHDH's Chris Lambert writes on his weather blog: 

"We catch a two day break before more snow tracks toward New England overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning. Looks like a quick hitter with a few inches of snow possible from Worcester to Boston, with lighter amounts north, and heavier amounts south. Indications are most of SE Mass will be in the 3-6" range.  It's an early look at this storm, so the bands may get adjusted north or south.  With a fast west to east movement of the storm, I don't expect this to become a blockbuster snow and wind event. However, I do expect more slowdowns for the Thursday morning commute."
