The Week Ahead: Ash Wednesday, "Little Women," DI Expo

  • When/Where: Absolutely Fabulous / Tuesday, 7-10 p.m. 
  • For Who: Anyone who wants to support the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund.
  • Why Go: Lucas, an attorney and former state rep candidate, is the first in the Guest Bartenders at Ab Fab series. A portion of the proceeds from David's guest appearance will benefit the Melrose Permanent Scholarship Fund. Live music will be performed by Evan Goodrow throughout the night as well.
  • When/Where: Melrose Highlands Congregational Church / Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. 
  • For Who: Christians celebrating the beginning of Lent.
  • Why Go: A brief worship service will take place in Fellowship Hall after supper, suitable for all ages and with child care provided. At the entry to the church's Labyrinth, the Imposition of Ashes will be offered. At the center of the Labyrinth, Holy Communion will be offered.

  • When/Where: Wakefield/Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St, Wakefield / Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday at 3 p.m. 
  • For Who: Theater and musical lovers.
  • Why Go: Wakefield Repertory Theater will be presenting "Little Women", a musical adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic 1869 semi-autobiographical novel. The show focuses on the four March sisters Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth and their beloved Marmee, at home in Concord, Massachusetts while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Intercut with the vignettes in which their lives unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in her attic studio.
  • When/Where: Lincoln School / Saturday, noon-3 p.m. 
  • For Who: Parents and kids interested in Destination Imagination.
  • Why Go: Eighteen Melrose Destination Imagination teams will be displaying their talents and solutions to their chosen challenges. This is a dress rehearsal for the DI regional tournament taking place in Beverly on Saturday, March 19. If you've been wondering what Destination Imagination is all about, drop in and check it out. 
  • When/Where: CoCo Key Water Resort, 50 Ferncroft Road, Danvers / Sunday, noon-5 p.m. 
  • For Who: Families and supporters of the Lincoln School.
  • Why Go: Got the winter blues? Spend the day at CoCo Key Water Resort and splash into summer fun. The Lincoln School PTO is selling tickets to CoCo Key for March 13. Everyone is welcome!  Tickets are available at the Lincoln School and Busy Bee Bakery.
