Where Do Drivers Speed Most in Melrose?

Let's see if there's a consensus.

We all know there are spots where people tend to speed in Melrose.

Tell us in the comments section which are the most dangerous and might need a raised section, another stop sign, more crosswalks or another measure to slow down traffic. Then next Wednesday, we'll run a poll based on the top five answers we received in the callout.

Penney Road. So dangerous. I live in this neighborhood and it is a scary ride for my family and I on a daily basis.

The Fellsway, and people trying to cut across to other side streets. And they fly down Burrell st, the WRONG way! We have 2 sad signs that need to be updated and moved so people can see them. Or can we put something written on the ground or a blinking sign? I live there and we have a little one and there are kids all down the street.

Perkins St between Warwick & LFP is a drag strip (both directions).

Right outside my apartment on Main Street :P It's like cars just whip around the corner at Billy's and see just how fast they can get on the straight bit and floor it. I assume they are all in a rush to see how fast they can get to the light at Main & Franklin... or to get a good clip going in order to whip around that left hand turn in front of oncoming traffic at Grey's. As they do.
Well, the sound of racing bikes shifting outside my apartment at all hours leads me to such assumptions.

The Fellsway --from the lights at Main Street Saugus right down to Lincoln St.--no cross streets for over a mile--and everyone is in a hurry to get to Oak Grove and or 93 South--the MDC used to patrol this stretch very well--but the only time you see a State Police cruiser is when THEY are speeding by to somwhere else--or when they are doing a detail--they you only see their backs because they are busy chatting with/watching the laborers. Have actually seen someone killed in a crash in front of my house. LOVELY

Cars fly down Franklin Street, which is particularly noticeable in the little business district near the train station. They don't seem to notice (or care about) the crosswalks, either. I can't count the number of close calls I've seen with people trying to cross the street at one of the crosswalks.

Since the city is currently redesigning the Highlands station and business district, I hope the will include some sort of traffic calming. I feel like they did at great job at Wyoming Station (though not so well with traffic calming at Cedar Park). Narrowing the roadway could do wonders. There is no parking as you cross the railroad tracks, so there is no reason why the roadway needs to remain that wide there.

I have to say, I used to have regular near-death experiences parking on the opposite side of the street and trying to cross over to Peacuddy's.

I feel like there is speeding all over Melrose. We have so many streets that are mixed use - residential but also business; so many of our streets are used as cut-throughs for commuters and trucks.

Any side st. between West Wyoming and West Emerson. People like to cut across these streets instead of going to main st. It gets worse when there is a train at west Wyoming and cars try to beat it down the side streets which are mostly one way because they are very narrow.

Howard Street, especially people thinking it's a quick way to get between Melrose and Saugus. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2011/11/10/wanted-driver-hospitalized-after-crash-in-melrose/
