Mystic Valley Boys Basketball Tops Minuteman

The Mystic Valley boys’ varsity basketball team welcomed in the new year in positive fashion, defeating Minuteman Regional High School of Lexington, 77-52, before a supportive home crowd in Malden.

The Eagles have now won three games in a row, improving their overall record to 5-1, 3-0 in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference (CAC).

Mystic Valley took a 38-28 advantage into halftime against Minuteman, also a member of the CAC, thanks to its pressure defense and outside shooting.  The accurate marksmanship continued in the second half as the Eagles extended its lead to 20 points at the end of the third quarter.

In the end, Mystic Valley connected on 11 three-point shots, six of them by senior guard Greg Staho who led the Eagles with 26 points.  Senior guards Mike Levine and Kyle Howard tickled the twine for three and two long range shots, respectively, as well.

“We’ve been spending more time at practice working on our outside shooting and I’m happy that’s it’s paying off,” said Mystic Valley head coach Tony Ferullo.  “This was our best outside shooting game of the season and I hope that it continues.”

The Eagles next game is Friday, January 6, when it travels to Wakefield for a CAC contest against Northeast Metro Tech at 4:45 pm.
