Police Looking for Suspect in Attempted Armed Robbery at Dunkin' Donuts

A knife-wielding man allegedly tried to rob the Dunkin' Donuts at 2 Lynn Fells Parkway Thursday, according to police. The same man was also spotted at a Dunkin' Donuts on Franklin Street shortly before the attempted armed robbery.

Stoneham detectives are looking for a man who appeared in two Dunkin' Donuts—the second of which he attempted to rob at knifepoint—in Stoneham Thursday, according to police. At 3:54 p.m., police responded to the Dunkin' Donuts on Franklin Street after an employee called about a suspicious man in the store. "The employee in the store thought they recognized him from a past robbery," said Lieutenant Jim McIntyre. "He became nervous and ended up leaving the store. Because of him going into the store the (patrol) units started checking other Dunkin' Donuts and convenience stores to keep an eye out and give them a heads up that he was out and about." At 4:36 p.m., an officer visited the Dunkin' Donuts at 2 Lynn Fells Parkway and "before the …

Melrosian's Jazz Concert Is Curtain Call For Corinthian Hall

Joe Mulholland kicks off his fourth album with a June 8 concert at Corinthian Hall, the last event at the venue that is now closing.

The kick-off jazz concert for Melrosian Joe Mulholland's fourth album release on June 8 with also serve as the curtain call for Corinthian Hall, the refurbished banquet hall that only re-opened two years ago on Franklin Street. Kelly Carroll, Corinthian Hall's executive director, informed Melrose Patch "with great sadness" of the hall's closing in an email. After Stephen Longmuir purchased the building in 2009, Corinthian Hall was refurbished and re-opened, restored to match how the ballroom looked when it hosted its first event in 1900. Carroll said in her email that "we were just not able to generate enough income to sustain it any longer." Long-time Melrosian Mulholland will give the hall a final send-off with his jazz quartet on Friday…

Please vote for your favorite place by taking our poll. Then click on the directory link and write a short review.

There are many places to shop for food in Melrose, but which one is the best? That's the question we're posing to you for this week's Patch Readers' Choice contest.  Here are some of our favorite ones, but if we're leaving a business off the list, please let us know in the comments section, and we'll add it.  Voting in the poll below is open until 9 a.m. Friday. Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner.
