All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of the national Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Melrose YMCA, 497 Main Street. There is no charge to enter.
Participants are required to provide proof of age and a completed entry form signed by a parent or guardian. Based on the youth's age as of Jan. 1, participants will compete against others of the same age and gender. All participants will be recognized with a certificate. Competitors will take 15 free throws and the boy and girl from each age group who makes the most will receive an award as Melrose champion. The champs will advance to the regional championship in Reading on March 23 with the opportunity to compete for the state championship April 6 at Holy Cross.
