Breaking News: Anthony Guardia Receives Major Endorsements

Wakefield - Fifth District Senate candidate Anthony Guardia was endorsed this week by the National Association of Government Employees (NAGE), the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the Boston Teachers Union (BTU).

“These endorsements mean a lot to me because they come from groups representing hard-working individuals from varied professions,” Guardia said. “Each organization is committed to promoting fair wages and fair treatment of their employees. I share that goal for all people in Massachusetts.”

“The voters in the Fifth Middlesex District and the men and women of NAGE lost a key ally in the State Senate when Katherine Clark was elected to Congress. We need to ensure that the right candidate is elected to continue advocating on behalf of our values. Anthony Guardia is the right candidate,” said a NAGE spokesperson. “Anthony has a solid understanding of the important role that public employees play in our state and municipal governments. I believe that he will be a strong voice for NAGE members and their families as a member of the State Senate.”

AFT, an affiliate the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, represents more than 25,000 educators throughout the Massachusetts public school system, including teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, bus drivers, secretaries and other school-related personnel. Their members also work as faculty and staff at colleges and universities and as health care professionals and municipal librarians.

“The AFT enthusiastically supports Anthony Guardia as the next State Senator in the Fifth Middlesex District,” said an AFT spokesperson.

The BTU represents 5,500 teachers and other professionals including nurses, psychologists, and guidance counselors. In addition, they represent approximately 1,000 paraprofessionals, and close to 500 substitute teachers.

“At the Boston Teacher’s Union, one of our responsibilities is to promote and strengthen our education system, ensuring that they are the best they can be,” a spokesperson for BTU said. “Anthony Guardia is a breath of fresh air and someone who will fight for education.”

Guardia is currently the Director of Development at HomeStart, a nonprofit organization that helps vulnerable seniors, veterans and families avoid eviction. The organization has helped more than 500 individuals, families and children stay in their homes and out of homeless shelters, saving the state more than $350,000.
