Honoring the Life of Hugh Lennon

Mr. Hugh F. Lennon, a resident of Melrose and formerly longtime of Fall River, passed away peacefully at the VA Boston Healthcare Facility in W. Roxbury on Friday, July 12, 2013, at age 91.  

Hugh was born in Providence, Rhode Island, one of six children of the late Hugh H. Lennon and Mary Ann (Grant) Lennon.  Raised in Fall River, Hugh entered into the US Marine Corps on January 1st, 1940 and served overseas during WWII.  He was deployed in the American Theatre and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre before returning home with an honorable discharge in 1956.  Deeply devoted to serving his country, Hugh reenlisted as a member of the US Air Force and served five more years during the Korean Conflict.  After 20 dedicated years in the military, he retired in 1960 as Tech Sergeant.  Hugh then started a civilian life working for the Post Office as a Registered Mail Clerk at the South Postal Annex.

Aside from his faithful years in the armed forces, Hugh was a sports fan who loved baseball and played in the independent football league in Fall River.

Mr. Lennon was the beloved husband of the late Sylvia (Harrison) Lennon.  Devoted father of H. Gary Lennon of Melrose, David J. Lennon and his wife Jean of Needham, and the late Tim P. Lennon and his wife Lorraine of Longwood, FL.  Dear brother of Angela P. Thorpe of Boca Raton, FL, and the late John C. Lennon, Mary L. Lennon, Helen M. Silvia, and Francis I. Lennon.  Cherished grandfather of Jeffrey Lennon, Stephanie Lennon, Scott Lennon, Annie Lennon, Bryan Lennon, Michael Lennon, Emily Lennon, Theka Bowen, and N-gina Bowen.  Loving step great-grandfather of Jordan Lightly. 

Relatives and friends will gather in honor of Hugh’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, July 17 from 4-8PM, and for his Funeral Mass at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, 327 Second St., Fall River, celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM.  Interment with military honors at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.  For directions, online tribute, or condolences visit www.RobinsonFuneralHome.com.
