Melrose Family YMCA Summer Camp Programs Help Kids Learn, Grow, and Thrive

[MELROSE, MAY 9]- Summer is the ideal time for kids to get up, get out and explore. But, for some kids summer means no access to recreational and educational activities to help them learn, grow and thrive during out-of-school time. As a result, some kids can experience learning loss and gain weight twice as fast than during the school year. For parents and caregivers looking to keep kids’ minds and bodies active, the Melrose Family YMCA is offering 3 summer camp programs to give youth an adventurous, active and healthy summer.

YMCA camp programs provide a fun and unique experience that gives children and teens the opportunity to explore the outdoors, meet new friends, discover new interests and create memories that last a lifetime. The Melrose Family YMCA offers three summer camp programs for a variety of ages.  For little ones ages 5 to 7 years old, the YMCA Summer Discovery Program, located at the Stoneham and Melrose Child Care Sites, gives kids a chance to enjoy sports, crafts, swimming, and a special guest every week such as Curious Creatures.  At the Main Street Camp for ages 7 to 14 years old, children will enjoy swimming, crafts, sports, theme weeks, and a field trip every Tuesday.  Finally, for the children that love a new adventure each day, Quest Camp for ages 10 to 14 years old will take kids on a field trip each day to places like Gillette Stadium, Salisbury State Park, and Franklin Park Zoo.

“YMCA summer camp supports the cognitive development and physical well-being of kids,” says Tyler Fleming, Executive Director, Melrose Family YMCA. ‘In our summer camp programs, kids are in a welcoming environment where they can belong, build relationships, develop character and discover their potential. We really encourage parents to give their kids the gift of camp so that every child can benefit from the experience.”
