Remembering William "Billy" Murphy
William H. “Billy” Murphy, of Melrose, formerly of Charlestown, died at the Massachusetts General Hospital on Oct. 5, 2013 at the age of 71. Billy was born in Medford, raised in Charlestown and a graduate of Boston Trade School. He served his country in the Army Reserves and worked for over 40 years as a Repairman for the MBTA before his retirement at the age of 61. Billy resided in Charlestown until 1973 and the past 40 years in Melrose. He was a member of the Irish American Club in Malden, Old School Boys Assoc and the Majestic Knights Drum & Bugle Corp in Charlestown. Billy was the beloved husband of Ann Marie (Ahearn) Murphy for 48 years. Devoted son of the late Kathryn (Winnett) Murphy. Loving father of Brian F. Murphy & his wife Michelle of Weymouth, Brenda A. Kopylov & her husband Andrei of Stoneham and Steven W. Murphy & his wife Tara of Saugus. Cherished Papa of Liam & Margaret Murphy, Sean Kopylov and Owen Murphy. Caring brother of Jane Papasodoro & her husband Walter of Saugus. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, Oct. 10th at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in the Church of the Incarnation, 429 Upham St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
