Maundy Thursday Worship Service

First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ will hold a Maundy Thursday Worship service on April 5th at 7pm.

The Thursday before Easter is called “Maundy Thursday”. “Maundy” means “commandment” and is the day when we recall Christ’s commandment that we “love one another” as he has loved us. We have an evening worship service that day during which we remember the Last Supper he shared with his disciples, his crucifixion on the cross, and his time in the tomb. It is a moving, contemplative worship experience that ends in silence and darkness—symbolic of the sealed tomb.

If you attend this worship service, when you again enter the Sanctuary on Easter morning you will experience a dramatic contrast. You will feel the difference between darkness and light, death and new life. The Sanctuary, which took on the spiritual feel of the tomb on Thursday, now has the spiritual feel of the bright morning garden and empty tomb on Easter. Come experience the whole story!
