2. In case you missed it: The new Melrose Whole Foods opens this morning at 10 a.m. at the former Johnnie’s Foodmaster on Main Street. The store will hold a 9:45 a.m. bread-breaking ceremony in lieu of a ribbon-cutting with Mayor Robert Dolan.
3. On this day in Melrose history: On Tuesday, July 24 1923, Melrose voters approved a $75,000 (nearly $1 million in 2012 dollars), six-room addition to the then Washington Elementary School in a special election.
