Five Things: Whole Foods Opens Today, Red Sox Come to Town and More

1. Possible thunderstorms...again: Wednesday will see partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms around noon. Highs in the upper 80s.

2. In case you missed it: The new Melrose Whole Foods opens this morning at 10 a.m. at the former Johnnie’s Foodmaster on Main Street. The store will hold a 9:45 a.m. bread-breaking ceremony in lieu of a ribbon-cutting with Mayor Robert Dolan.

3. On this day in Melrose history: On Tuesday, July 24 1923, Melrose voters approved a $75,000 (nearly $1 million in 2012 dollars), six-room addition to the then Washington Elementary School in a special election.      

4. A Servants Heart Food Pantry collections begin: The Melrose Lodge of Elks is collecting food donations for Melrose’s A Servants Heart food pantry. For a list of appropriate items, check out their board posting.

5. Daniel Nava Baseball Clinic: Here is your chance to meet and interact with Daniel Nava - the Boston Red Sox Outfielder will be hosting a baseball clinic for kids aged 6-14 at the Melrose High School athletic fields at 9 a.m. this Wednesday.
