Kids Planner: This Week's Fun Fall Activities

Take your kids on a walk through the woods; support the Melrose High School girls soccer team; find childcare; go to a playgroup and brush up on ice-skating.

Where/When: Long Pond parking lot on South Border Road in Winchester/Wednesday, Nov. 2, 9:15 a.m. 

Why go? We will take a walk to Long Pond searching for late blooming flowers and plants still in fruit. The walk will focus on plant identification as well as fun and interesting natural history. Perhaps we'll see a few witches and skeletons left over from Halloween!

Where/When: Kelly’s Roast Beef, 595 Broadway, Saugus/Wednesday, Nov. 2, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why go? There will be a lottery scratch ticket basket which will be raffled off. Come and take a chance while supporting the Girls’ Soccer Team!

Where/When: Galvin Middle School Cafeteria, 525 Main St,, Wakefield/Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. 

Why go? Looking for childcare or preschool for now or the future? If so, this free event is for you! Gather information from nursery schools, childcare centers, family childcare programs and family support programs located in Melrose, Stoneham and Wakefield. Where/When: , 184 Pleasant St, Malden/ Wednesday, Nov. 2, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 

Why go: Children aged 0-5 years old and their parents or caregivers are welcome. Food is allowed, but no peanut butter, please. Diapers must be bagged and taken home. The group is run by church volunteers, so please take a moment to help clean up the toys before you leave. Parking is available in the nearby Florence Street parking lot. We validate for free parking for church activities!

Where/When: , 101 Montvale Ave, Stoneham/Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays this fall and winter. 

Why go? Ice skating is a great winter activity for all ages and abilities. Come and join the Stoneham Figure Skating Club to brush up on your skills or learn a few new ones. Figure and hockey skaters are welcome. 

Tuesday (5pm), Saturday (12pm) & Sunday (1pm) sessions are open to those between the ages of 3 and 17.  Our adult and advanced skater session is held on Saturdays at 10am.  Register at any time.

Cost: $15 for members; $17 for non-members
