Melrose’s Population Continues to Rise

Take a look at Melrose’s growth in the last three years.

Melrose’s population increased by 2 percent between 2010 and 2013, according to new U.S. Census data released this week.

Melrose had 27,023 residents in 2010 and that number rose 667 to 27,690 in 2013.

The 2 percent figure for Melrose is higher than the 1 percent median growth rate among Massachusetts communities that was reported by the Boston Business Journal but well below the 10 percent population increase in Cohasset, which saw the most growth in the state.

Communities near Melrose also saw an influx of residents: Saugus 4 percent increase, Wakefield 4 percent, Winchester 3 percent, Malden 2 percent, Medford 2 percent and Stoneham 2 percent.
