Parking Changes in Downtown Melrose

Among the changes: three-hour parking in downtown lots

Some parking changes are in effect in downtown Melrose.

Parking in one of downtown Melrose’s municipal lots? You’ll see some new parking signs. Some of these spaces used to be one- and two-hour spots, but now the city is making them uniform and increasing parking time to three hours to accommodate the variety of businesses in the downtown area.

Effective immediately, all parking spaces in the following lots will have a three-hour limit between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.:

  • Field’s Court (behind Starbucks)
  • Livermore Lot (across from Ell Pond)
  • Friends Lot (behind Papa Gino’s)
  • Berwick Street between West Foster and Grove streets

These time limits are not in effect on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays and do not apply to permit holders who have purchased commercial parking permits.

City officials have taken many recommendations from the city's parking study including repaving and restriping the Dill’s Court parking lot, which added nine parking spaces, relocated and more clearly defined the handicap parking spaces, and added crosswalks to improve pedestrian safety. A new signage program is also up and running to educate Melrosians and non-Melrosians as to parking options in our downtown, addressed drainage problems that interfered with parking, and implemented a snow removal plan that removes large piles of snow from the primary downtown parking lots, making more spaces available during the winter months.
