Road Improvements Announced

The City of Melrose will move forward with major road work through the fall of this year, though the extent will depend on whether the state releases funds it pledged for roads this fiscal year, according to a report on Mayor Robert Dolan.

Phase 1 of the Fiscal 2013 road program will likely involve work on the following streets:

  • Everett Street
  • Sewall Street
  • Geneva Road
  • Summer Street
  • Sidewalks on West Foster Street from Myrtle to Willow
  • North and South Cedar Park
  • Glendower Road at the Hoover School
  • Intersection of Foster, Vinton, and Maple
  • Upham Street sidewalks from Altamont to Ridgewood

The 2013 program will include a focus on pedestrian accessibility, including the West Foster Street sidewalks that provide access to downtown and elderly facilities, the Upham Street sidewalks, and the Glendower-Hoover transportation safety upgrades.

"This is an aggressive program that will provide real benefits to the City," City Engineer Andrew Street said in a statement.

"I look forward to working with the residents of these areas to not only improve the condition of the roads, but also the pedestrian accommodations within these project areas."
