By next Wednesday, much of the holidays will be over. The Christmas tree will have started shedding needles in earnest, Hannukah will be wrapping up and the combined noise of the new iPads and video games and argument-inspiring board games will be enough to nudge even the coziest of families out of the house.
All this leads us to this week's Great Escape, where we're breaking the rules a bit and suggesting something in which both parents and kids can partake, should you choose to bring along the youngest among you: roller skating.
Or, to be more precise, roller skating right down the street at Roller World on Route 1 South. Open all of next week from noon to five (and later for night skates on Friday and Saturday), the rink consists of a main 180 foot by 80 foot floor. Happily enough, there's also a small beginners' skating floor tucked to the side. Add in the occasional disco ball, glowing wall decals, the usual snack bar fare and a few video games and its guaranteed family fun.

Admission is $7.50 a person (well, $8.50 after 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday) and includes a skate rental, should you need it. Inline skate rental is an additional $3.00. Feel free to bring your own skates, but rink employees may inspect 'em before you hit the boards.
