Why Go: Have your hair cut eight inches or more by professional stylists and it will be donated to Pink Heart Funds, which makes free wigs for women and children with cancer. Why Go: The Melrose Republican City Committee will be sponsoring Guest Bartender night at Absolutely Fabulous to raise money to support the Mayor's Emergency Fund. Join Guest Bartender Rick Costa, have some great food and drinks as well as live music, all while supporting your neighbors.

Why Go: The Melrose Public Library's popular Author's Corner series continues this week with Jennifer Haigh (pictured), author of Baker Towers and Mrs. Kimble. Books are available for purchase that night, courtesy of Haley Booksellers.

When/Where: Friday, Oct. 28, 3:30-5 p.m. / Downtown, Franklin Square and West Wyoming Avenue

Why Go: A Melrose Halloween tradition continues when Melrose businesses open their doors to young trick or treater. Participating businesses will hang balloons, welcoming children in third grade and younger. Once again, the chamber asks that trick or treaters bring not only a scary costume, but something to donate to one of Melrose's local food pantries.
