Why Go: Come in costume and enjoy entertainment by Jean Dancewicz, spooky decorations, games and giveaways, snacks and drinks. Call the Center's receptionist to sign up.

When/Where: Wednesday, Nov. 2, 6:30 p.m./Galvin Middle School Cafeteria, 525 Main St., Wakefield

Why Go: Looking for childcare or preschool for now or the future? If so, this event is for you. Gather information from nursery schools, childcare centers, family childcare programs and family support programs located in Melrose, Stoneham and Wakefield.

Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Friday, Nov. 4, 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m./First Baptist Church, 561 Main St., Melrose

Why Go: Friday night features a homemade pie social, and Saturday features a lobster roll lunch. On both days, "downtown shops" offer white elephant treasures, plants, baked goods, crafts, jewelry, children's activities, and a silent auction.

When/Where: Saturday, Nov. 5, 9 a.m./First United Methodist Church, 645 Main St., Melrose

Why Go: Visit the church's beautifully decorated hall and enjoy coffee and donuts, a sandwich, salad and soup luncheon with special desserts, and holiday shopping. There will be a boutique table, gently used jewelry, Christmas crafts room, used books, handmade crafts and a silent auction.

When/Where: Saturday, Nov. 5, 8 p.m./, 590 Main St., Melrose

Why Go: The opening of the 94th season of the Melrose Symphony Orchestra features Sibelius' Finlandia; Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, which was inspired by the drawings and watercolors of an artist’s travels (Melrose artist Tom Sutherland will join the orchestra and create a live painting during the performance as he is inspired by the music); and ProkofievPiano Concerto No. 3, featuring 14-year-old pianist Kadar Qian.

Pricing: General admission $29; Students $10.
