Why Go: Award winning artist, Nella Lush, will be doing a painting demonstration in oil. Nella grew up in Southern Italy and has also lived in Spain. Nella's paintings are filled with atmospheric color and texture and her loose style brings a poetic result. She is represented in New England by the Churchill Gallery in Newburyport and the Rockport and North Shore Art Associations. More information can be found at www.nellasgallery.com.

When/Where: Wednesday, Dec. 7, 9 p.m. / , 562 Main St., Melrose

Why Go: Melrose Veteran Services invites all veterans and friends of veterans to gather at City Hall in rememberance of those who sacrficed their lives at Pearl Harbor and those who answered their country's call in the years following. The ceremony will include comments and breakfast refreshment immediately following in the Mayor's conference room. For more information call 781-979-4186.

When/Where: Friday, Dec. 9, 6 p.m. / , 497 Main St., Melrose

Why Go: Take your picture with Santa Claus, make crafts, listen to festive music and eat treats. The YMCA asks families to sign up for the event at the Welcome Center in advance.

Pricing: Free for members; $10 for non-members.

When/Where: Friday, Dec. 9  and Saturday, Dec. 10, 8 p.m. / , 590 Main St., Melrose

Why Go: Join the Melrose Symphony and elegant lyric-soprano Kristen Watson to celebrate this holiday season. This perennial highlight in Melrose includes favorites such as Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Winter Wonderland, Carol of the Bells, and an audience sing along!

Pricing: $29 General Admission

When/Where: Friday, Dec. 9, 5-9 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 10, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 11, 9 a.m.-noon / , 360 Lynn Fells Pkwy, Melrose

Why Go: The Melrose High School Marching Band and Color Guard will be selling Christmas Trees and Holiday Wreaths at the MHS parking lot. There will be many trees of various sizes, and both decorated and undecorated holiday wreaths. Enjoy listening to music while browsing our fine trees. Lots of cheerful students will be there to help you choose a tree. Each purchase supports the band and color guard. 

Pricing: $25 per tree.
