The Week Ahead: Retro/Glam Movie Night; Arts Festival; Yard Sale and More

  • When/Where: Hoover School / Friday, 5-8 p.m. 
  • For Who: Families wanting to learn about different cultures.
  • Why Go: The Festival will showcase several world cultures represented in Melrose, including their respective social customs and practices. You'll also be able sample international foods, see some entertaining dance and musical performances, and enjoy a fun evening with your family.

  • When/Where: Memorial Hall / Friday (preview party), 7-9 p.m.; Saturday, noon-7 p.m. and Sunday 11-5 PM,
  • For Who: Art lovers.
  • Why Go: Melrose Arts' annual juried festival returns with nearly 50 exhibitors, an art raffle, music, food and drink and more. Perhaps the best part: It's free. (The preview party on Friday night costs $10).
  • When/Where: 334 West Emerson St. / Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • For Who: Adherents to the "one man's trash ..." idiom.
  • Why Go: Because who doesn't love a bargain? Toys, household items, books,  clothes and more.
  • When/Where: Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School / Saturday, 6-10 p.m.
  • For Who: Hepburn fans and deal-seekers.
  • Why Go: This month's Flicks@Night combines a screening of the Audrey Hepburn classic Roman Holiday, which starts at 7 p.m., with a shopping night featuring a variety of vendors. Proceeds benefit the Middle School PTO.

  • When/Where: Temple Beth Shalom / Sunday, 2:30 p.m.
  • For Who: Parents looking for a fun activity with their young ones this weekend.
  • Why Go: Based on the beloved books of Richard Scarry, Busytown the Musical features young actors from Stoneham’s Theatre’s Kids4Kids program. This show is especially appealing for preschoolers and children in the elementary grades, who will have the chance to talk with the actors after the show. The 45-minute production features the likes of Huckle, Lowly Worm, and Able Baker Charlie.
