Why Go: The Malden Chamber of Commerce will host the 2012 Taste of Malden, showcasing the city's outstanding local eating establishments. Twenty-five percent of the profits benefit Bread of Life, which also helps families in Melrose. See the Malden Chamber's website for a listing of restaurants.

Why Go: Rise Up Singing takes place on third Friday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Social Hall, downstairs at the church. Rise Up Singing is a sort of “round robin” singing circle, inspired by but not limited to the Rise Up Singing book. Singers and instrumentalists of all ages are welcome to this informal and spirited evening of shared music making. Bring your singing and picking friends. Songs of all genres are welcome, whether or not they are among the 1,200 songs included in the book. No music reading ability is needed. Bring a copy of Rise Up Singing if you have one.  Some copies will be available for those who don’t have their own.

Price: Free; the church encourages attendees to bring a non-perishable food item or a reusable grocery bag for the food pantry.

Why Go: "April 20th the Doors of the Howard Open Again" with a night of burlesque featuring the lovely Kristen Minsky along with the John Licata Sextet. Enjoy a night of burlesque, with vintage costumes, live music, handcrafted cocktails, and appetizers.

Why Go: Boston Marathoner Lorraine Flaherty ran the to raise money for Dana Farber Cancer Institute and will be having a yard sale on April 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise funds. Donations of unwanted items to sell at the yard sale are also needed (Cannot take TVs or computer monitors.) Items can be left at 191 Main St., Melrose on the closed-in porch, or call 781-665-6987 to schedule pickup.

Why Go: Tufts Concert Choir and Chamber Singers (Jamie Kirsch, conductor) and Kiniwe (Nani Agbeli, director) present Agbadza, a performance of traditional Ewe music from Ghana and Togo. Tufts choruses will also join members of the Tufts Symphony Orchestra for Haydn's powerful Missa in tempore belli (Mass in Time of War).
