Why Go: Beginning on May 3 and continuing through September 20, "Plaza Jazz" will feature free concerts on two Thursday nights a month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The concerts will be performed by students and alumni from Boston’s Berklee College of Music who have been part of Berklee’s independent label Jazz Revelation Records. The series kicks off on Thursday, May 3 with the Arvis Valeris Quartet (Greece).

Why Go: Nicolo Salon in Melrose with be hosting a Celebration of Beauty event featuring celebrity make-up artist Christopher Drummond. Drummond has worked with Jennifer Lopez, Glenn Close, January Jones and Halle Berry among many other celebrities. He is the founder of Christopher Drummond Beauty, a high fashion and all natural hydrating mineral make-up line. He will be offering complimentary makeovers to attendees of the event. People interested in receiving this celebrity style makeover with Christopher Drummond can reserve their spot today for $25. $10 of that will go to a women’s charity called Amangwe. Amangwe’s aim is to facilitate local women in South Africa to become self-sustaining by having them use their traditional gifts and talents in beadwork, basketry and jewelry making. The other $15 is redeemable in beauty product for the night of the event.

Why Go: Join Friends of the Fells hike leader Dan Sumorok on a hiking tour of the southernmost part of the Fells on the Skyline, Reservoir, and Cross Fells trails. This walk will end with a visit to Pine Hill and Wright’s Tower, where the view includes Medford, Boston, and the Blue Hills in the distance. The trails are steep and rocky in places. Wear sturdy boots and bring at least a liter of water. Meet at the Bellevue Pond parking area, South Border Road, Medford. Rain cancels.

Why Go: Join the Melrose Symphony for a spectacular grand finale of the season with an evening of pops favorites. The orchestra, under the direction of Yoichi Udagawa, will perform music from favorite childhood cartoons, selections from the musical Oklahoma, and a special tribute to the 30th anniversary of the movie ET. Russian-born flamenco guitarist, Grisha Goryachev, will also perform Rodrigo’s popular Concierto de Arajuez. Goryachev began playing guitar at the age of six, and by age nine led an extensive career as a child prodigy. He has toured internationally and won numerous awards, including the prize for best performance of Spanish Music at the VI International Classical Guitar Competition in Almería, Spain.

Price: Tickets are $29 for general admission; $37 for table seating and can be purchased online.
