Why Go: The Nazareth Academy Performing Arts Department presents Annie Jr., a kids version of the famous musical based on the comic strip "Little Orphan Annie," featuring well-known songs "Tomorrow" and "Hard Knock Life.

Why Go: A modest hike with leader Bryan Hamlin to see the abundance of spring blossoms at this time. On this hike you'll see Pink Lady Slipper Orchids and many other lovely late spring flowers such as Wild Geranium, Maple-leaved Viburnum, Canada Mayflower, Solomon's Seal, and Huckleberry. Meet at Long Pond parking lot, South Border Road, Winchester, gate 13. Steady rain postpones to same time Sunday.

Why Go: Batter up! The annual Boston Field of Dreams Wiffle Ball Tournament will be held Saturday at the Boston Athletic Club. The Boston Field of Dreams Foundation will be supporting Joslin Diabetes Center by hosting its day-long wiffle ball tournament, for all ages, to raise diabetes awareness. A hundred percent of the proceeds from this years’ Field of Dreams will support Joslin’s commitment to finding a cure. In addition to a morning wiffle ball tournament for children and families, Boston Bruins Legend Rene Rancourt will sing the National Anthem to kick off the afternoon games for adults. The day will also feature food, music, a raffle and many other fun activities. For the kiddos there will be a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, and a K9 demonstration by the Boston Police Department.

Why Go: The purpose of this event is to raise money that will be directly distributed to veterinary hospitals to financially assist Paws Recipients when their families cannot afford veterinary treatment without our help. Paws 4 A Cure works hard to provide funds and support to the families that are battling serious illnesses and injuries each year. Join more than 300 dogs and their people for this fun annual event that has helped to raise $50,000 to help dogs and cats with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Price: $25-30.

Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Hall 100th Anniversary Celebrations

When/Where: Friday, May 18, 7 p.m. (Veterans Concert), Saturday, May 19 (100th Anniversary Gala), Sunday, May 20, 1:30 p.m. (Parade) / , 562 Main St., Melrose, MA

Why Go: This weekend, the city celebrates the 100th anniversary of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall Building, known colloquially as Memorial Hall:

  • On Friday, May 18, Melrose veterans and the general public are invited to an , featuring the United States Air Force Band of Liberty. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free but a ticket is required; tickets are available at the Melrose Public Library, the Mayor’s Office, the Milano Senior Center, and the Veteran Services Office.
  • On Saturday, May 19 is the , a black and white gala celebration that harkens back to the sounds of the hall in its youth with the sounds of 18-piece big band orchestra, Dan Gabel and the Abletones. Evening attire is encouraged for guests.  Tickets are $35 and include a night full of dancing, finger foods and two cash bars. Tickets are now on sale at Sweet Thoughts (504 Main St., Melrose), C21 Sexton & Donohue (29 Essex St., Melrose) and at Memorial Hall (562 Main St., Melrose). Tickets will not be sold at the door on the evening of the event, so advanced tickets are a must.
  • On Sunday, May 20, the will step out from Memorial Hall and proceed down Main Street. .

Price: $35 for 100th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday; Friday's concert is free.
