Melrose Home for the Holidays 2011—Kick-Off Night

The Melrose Chamber of Commerce presents its annual Home for the Holidays citywide celebration.

Happenings on Main Street (Main, Essex, Foster and Myrtle)
Friday, December 2nd


502 Main Street, 4- 5:45 pm
Santa is holding court at Edward Jones!  Bring your children in for a photo.  Co-sponsored by Marie T. Wood Realty


561 Main Street, 5-6:15 pm
The Lions Club is once again serving hotdogs and soup. The small admission fee benefits the good work of the Lions.

, 6:15 pm-6:30 pm
Start the holiday season with a prayer offered by Reverend Damaris Cami-Staples, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, followed by the lighting of the City Christmas tree by Mayor Robert Dolan.

Main Street, 6:30-7 pm
The magic of the season starts with the therapists from Roman Music Therapy Services leading us in holiday songs as we walk down Main Street to the YMCA.  Mayor Dolan will turn on the downtown holiday lights and Santa Claus arrives in Melrose!  Enjoy coffee and hot chocolate served by Coffee, Tea and Me. 

After Santa arrives, then visit:

Children are invited to visit Santa while enjoying cookies and hot cocoa.

Visit us for our traditional Winter Wonderland Fair.  Friday night supper is just $10 for adults; 1 child under 4 is free; $8 Seniors; $6 children.  The Fair includes handcrafted items, baked goods and candy, jewelry, gift basket raffle and silent auction. Santa’s Workshop for children to decorate gingerbread  houses, do crafts and see Santa!

Join us for the traditional Hanukkah party.  Play holiday games, listen to traditional music  sample wonderful, warm holiday food.

Visit us before or after visiting Santa for socializing with cider, hot chocolate, coffee and tea.  Crafts, games, face painting and surprises will help us greet the holiday season

Hourglass supports rescue Cats.  For the month of December, we will be giving back from sales made on oil paintings of Cats, Cat Monoprints, Raku cats, Ceramic Cat Vases—all from local artists.  We will also raffle off a painting.  Raffle tickets start at $1—100% of the ticket sales will go to our cause.  Money will be used for Vet bills, food and shelter.  The Melrose Humane Society will be presented with a check in January

Visit the school as a holiday tradition continues.  Buy your Christmas tree, kissing balls, poinsettias and more.  Cookies by the pound and cannoli kits from Mike’s Pastry in the North End are other reasons to
join in the fun at St Mary’s School!

Shop and sip on eggnog and cider and enjoy holiday treats.  Take advantage of the specials and raffles Friday and Saturday.

The Melrose High School Drama Club presents “The Odd Couple” (female version) by Neil Simon on Friday, December 2nd at 7:30 pm and Saturday, December 3rd at 2pm and 7:30 pm.  Tickets are available at the door; $10 adults; $7 students.
