The Melrose Highlands Congregational Church (MHCC) is holding its annual auction at Memorial Hall on Saturday, March 10th starting at 6:00 p.m.  If you’re a longtime MHCC auction fan, you know there‘s something for every budget, starting with an amazing array of multi-ticket-drawing baskets with a value of at least $50, but winnable with the right $2 ticket, The name of the game is competition; whether MHCC’s well-known silent auction or the non-silent one led by MHCC’s own auctioneer,  the irrepressible Brad Hutchinson of real estate fame, participants compete for a variety of desirable goodies from a Daniel Bard-autographed baseball, to Tiffany wine glasses, to Madame Alexander dolls, to a selection of beautiful new children’s books chosen by a children’s literature expert to… you name it, you’ll probably find it at the auction!  For $15, auction favorite Balloon Man offers a chance to pop a balloon and win a prize worth $15 or more:  gift cards to Johnnie’s Foodmaster, Turner’s, Mexico Lindo, and Starbucks, as well as numerous novelty gift items.

The pleasures on offer at the Spring Fling aren’t confined to treasures you compete for. Your ticket to the auction includes a delicious Italian-style catered dinner, courtesy of the Farmland, and a cash bar for wine and beer adds to the good times.

A new feature at the 2012 auction is an appearance by MHCC’s popular Praise Band. Led by longtime professional keyboardist and MHCC member, Bob Nasella, the Praise Band features bass, guitar, keyboard and drums. Nasella is the keyboard player for the Boston-based rock band, The Teal Street Band. The Praise Band’s repertoire of upbeat contemporary Christian music with a rock edge will increase auction-goers’ enjoyment even more.

Tickets for the event are $15 per person or $25 for two and may be purchased at the MHCC office at 355 Franklin Street, Melrose, Mass, as well as at Brad Hutchinson Real Estate and Wilson Insurance. Tickets will also be available at the door on auction night for $20.

Wondering where the auction proceeds go? You’ll be glad to know they help support outreach efforts, including local scouting groups, food pantries, feeding ministries, the Heifer Project International, as well as the longstanding and popular monthly middle school dances held at MHCC.

So… if getting out of the house for an evening of good food, conversation, the chance to meet new friends, and bidding for some truly outstanding items sounds appealing, mark your calendar: March 10th, 6 p.m., Memorial Hall. It’s where the fun begins!
