Breads 'n Bits of Ireland Closing on June 30

Owners Mary Anne and Tim Moynihan are retiring and shuttering the popular downtown eatery and meeting spot.

The heart of downtown Melrose will soon have a big hole to fill.

, the popular downtown breakfast and lunch for Melrosians, will close its doors for good on June 30, as owners Mary Anne and Tim Moynihan are retiring.

For 23 years the Moynihans, along with daughter Laura, have served up Breads 'n Bits famous scones, brown bread and Irish soda bread, and cultivated a homey atmosphere that became a popular meeting spot for Melrosians.

The store posted a letter on its outside window and door this past week. The letter reads:

After more than 23 years Breads 'n Bits of Ireland will be CLOSING on June 30, 2012.

We have loved our time with Breads 'n Bits of Ireland and we have had an awesome run. There are simply too many people to say thank you to, and so many incredible experiences to recount. We are grateful to all our staff, past and present our family and friends. You have made the experience unforgettable.

For over 23 years Breads 'n Bits of Ireland has been privileged to serve our community in unique ways and we have been blessed with support of our community in return. Breads 'nBits of Ireland created a community that brought strangers together, who became long lasting friends. Our lives became richer and fuller.

It is an end of an era. It is very sad to say goodbye, and to our customers, our family, and friends ... you have enhanced our lives for many years and we want to say Thank You for the journey.
