The City of Melrose is currently looking to hire multiple part-time and on-call staffers for various positions.

"Joining the City of Melrose Employee Group is a great opportunity for community-minded adults who wish to have extra pay in your pockets," reads a Melrose Human Resources Department press statement. "We welcome retirees, college students, parents and individuals who have the qualifications, time and energy to work in several city departments.

"All applicants have demonstrated experience in providing customer service, the ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information check and can fill the physical requirements of the jobs."

In an email to Melrose Patch on Friday, the Human Resources Department provides an overview of current part-time and on-call job openings:

Part-Time Jobs (18 hours per week or less)


Operations Assistant, Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall ($19.36 per hour) 

The assistant provides on-site customer service during events, maintains a professional and neat appearance, performs routine custodial duties. The qualified candidate is able to fill the essential physical requirements of the job and has previous custodial experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is dependable, reliable, punctual and flexible. The assistant is available for last minute calls for unexpected functions.

Accounting Assistant, Public Safety ($19.36 per hour)


The assistant provides accounting services for the Fire Department budget including daily budget monitoring, preparing weekly payroll, AP/AR. The qualified candidate has three years experience as an accounting assistant, bookkeeper or account clerk and two years experience processing payroll for 50-plus employees, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks.

On-Call Substitute Drivers, Council on Aging ($11 per hour)


The on-call substitute drivers transport seniors in an extended-body van to and from their appointments in Melrose and the surrounding area. The qualified candidate has a flexible schedule, a valid and current driver’s license (Class D) and a driving record proving responsible and lawful driving habits.

On-Call Substitute Custodians ($15 per hour)


The on-call substitutes perform routine custodial duties at municipal schools and buildings.
