It's Here - Shoppers Get Their First Taste of the Melrose Whole Foods

Did you drop by for opening day? Do you miss Foodmaster, or are you thrilled to have Whole Foods in town?

Mayor Robert Dolan was on hand for the official "bread-breaking" ceremony at the new Whole Foods location at 880 Main St. Wednesday morning.

The 31,513 square foot store employs about 125 full- and part-time employees, and is the company's 24th store in Massachusetts.

The new location offers standard Whole Foods fare, as well as some unique offerings, including a full butcher shop, cut-to-order fresh pasta and a pizza oven. Shoppers can even call the store beforehand to pick up a freshly made pie after collecting their groceries.

The store has also pledged to be a supportive corporate citizen in Melrose, donating 5% of its opening day funds to local charities and donating a salad bar to Melrose Middle School.
