Tips for Staging a Home for an Open House!

Staging is one of the most important aspects of preparing a home for sale. It allows prospective buyers to both see and feel that the house has been and can be lived in, as well as allow themselves to picture their own lives in the house. For this reason, it is important to properly stage the home, removing distractions and making optimal use of every single room. Though this stage may be difficult for sellers who are attached to their home, it will make the house easier to sell.

Clear out Excess Furniture

When a family lives in a home for an extended period of time, it is easy to collect furniture, crowding it into rooms where it does not really fit. While it is important for the rooms not to look empty, too much furniture or pieces that are too large can make small rooms look smaller and large rooms look jumbled. Again, this will give the home an air of being someone else's, and will make it difficult for buyers to see both how their own furniture will fit in a room or the real size and utility of a room.

Clean Everything Thoroughly

Most buyers are acutely aware of how clean a house is, and that directly relates to what they think of the house. A beautiful house can be hidden under a layer of dust and crumbs. A deep cleaning of bathrooms, kitchen, and the remaining furniture will make a house more attractive to buyers.

Remove Knick-Knacks and Photos

Though buyers want to envision themselves living in the house, it is not a good idea to make the house look too lived-in. Family pictures, collections, memorabilia, and anything else that is specific to the current tenants can make it difficult for buyers to see their own things in the house. In fact, it may turn many buyers off, as they will feel that they are simply touring someone else's house, rather than a place they could eventually call their own.
