7 Things to Do on Super Bowl Sunday If You Really Don’t Care About the Game

Maybe you’re still stinging from the Pats' loss to the Jets. Or maybe—and I know this is un-American—you just don’t care about football.

There’s no need to attend a Super Bowl party and pretend you’re excited about something you’re not.  And you don’t have to hide indoors, shades drawn, with the Lifetime Channel on either.

 Go out, proudly, head held high, and take advantage of the traffic-free roadways and desolate shopping/entertainment venues. Here are some suggestions:

1.) Home Depot: Not a he-man in sight! Super Bowl Sunday is the best day to go shopping at . Usually, we’d recommend the , but hey, people know you there and you don’t want the word to get out. 

2.) MFA’s Art of the America’s Wing: OK, so there may be a few more people here than at Home Depot but it won’t be packed. The Museum of Fine Arts new wing has been attracting crowds since it opened in November. Now’s the time to go. And there’s nothing more manly or American than the huge painting of George Washington called “The Passage of the Delaware.”

3.) Ski. Chances are the ski lifts at the Blue Hills, Nashoba Valley, and Wachusett Mountain won’t be crowded. And if you do some planning you could actually make “Take-Advantage-of-Super Bowl Sunday” an entire weekend by heading up to Cannon Mountain, Loon or Killington.  

4.) Head to the Theater. So if you’re still worried about being seen away from a TV screen, a dark movie theater is a good place to hide. Head to the Showcase Cinema in Revere or AMC Lowes Boston Common (just a 15 minute ride on the Orange Line; get off at Chinatown). And see whatever movie you like, even the latest chick flick if that’s your style.

5. ) Eat Out. Now is your chance to dine at that restaurant that usually has long lines. No light-up, vibrating square for you today.

6.) Charge It! Drive to the Burlington Mall, Square One Mall, or take the T to the or malls (it’s a straight shot on the Orange Line—just get off at Back Bay and walk). If anyone you know sees you, hey, they’re not watching the game either. Just don’t go to Patriot Place shopping center in Foxborough. Chances are the bars will be packed and the looks and stares you’ll get from retail workers there won’t be forgiving.

7.) Skate: Take the Orange Line to Downtown Crossing and walk up to the Frog Pond where public skating hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.  We expect few people to be on the ice at kickoff time (6:30 p.m.) so have fun channeling your inner Nancy Kerrigan.
