An Appliance Rebate Program, A Woman Backs into a Police Cruiser and More Affordable Housing

A look back at Melrose's top stories of the week.

Massachusetts residents interested in upgrading to more energy efficient appliances can take advantage of the state’s . The program, which started on July 28 and will continue while funds last, offers rebates of $150 on refrigerators and $50 on air conditioners when customers buy ENERGY STAR appliances to replace less efficient models.

A 55-year-old Melrose woman who backed out of a Foodmaster lot parking spot  was subsequently arrested on the charge of operating under the influence of alcohol.

Government 

As of this week, 12 of 14 bridge replacements on I-93 are complete. This weekend, the "93Fast14" project continues, with the bridges that carry I-93 southbound over Riverside Avenue in Medford will be replaced. , Aug. 5 at 7:45 p.m. and continued through Monday, Aug. 8 at 5 a.m.

An experienced prosecutor who had left the courtroom to write crime dramas in Hollywood has been appointed as a county prosecutor. as the newest member of Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone's prosecution team, Leone announced in a press release Tuesday.
