Car Lands on Side After Crash; Report Flames Heated Discussion; Melrose Run For Women a Success

Our top stories of the week ...

Fichotomous reactions to the final report from the four-day November visit by  accrediting body resulted in from one School Committee member, J.D. LaRock, who in turn received stern rebukes from some fellow committee members.

We also brought you in which a car struck a tree and landed on its side at Bellevue Avenue and Porter Street shortly before 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon, requiring Melrose firefighters to cut open the roof of the car to extricate the driver.

Schools

Contributor Grant Mukai of the  Drama Department presentation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I in the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School auditorium.

Government 

It was a joint effort to bring you a recently awarded to Melrose, Wakefield and Reading. The $15,000 grant from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) aims to help planners view the corridor from Reading Depot to the Oak Grove MBTA Station as a single unit.

Police/Fire

brought incidents including alleged copper theft, home invasion, and underage drinking.

Sports

The Melrose High School - Behind a 15-run offensive barrage, led by Woburn third baseman Meaghan Moore, and a two-hitter by Angela Pappalardo on the mound, the Woburn High softball team defeated visiting Melrose 15-3 Monday in a mercy-rule-shortened game.

The boys baseball team also - On Wednesday at Pine Banks Park  the Rockets beat Melrose 7-3 to avenge their April 26 loss.
