Heat Causes Kink on Orange Line Tracks, Shuttle Service Wellington to Oak Grove

The MBTA Orange Line has stopped outbound service at Wellington.

Thursday's warm weather created a kink in the Orange Line tracks this afternoon near Malden Center, causing delays and outbound train service to end at Wellington Station.

The MBTA first issued an alert about the problem at 4:15 p.m.

MBTA General Manager Richard Davey tweeted the attached picture, along with the message, "Here is the heat kink on the Orange Line near Malden causing delays. Sorry about the delays."

Shuttle buses are running from Wellington and making stops between Wellington and Oak Grove, according to the MBTA website and reports from T riders on Twitter. One tweeter reported, "Four train loads of people on this one now. Sheer chaos."

Also, commuters can hop on the Haverhill/Reading commuter rail line from North Station to get to Malden Center and Oak Grove.

Another person reported boarding a Silver Line bus at Wellington to get to Oak Grove, and another reported that the commuter rail train stopped at Oak Grove due to the Orange Line's track issue.

At 6:25 p.m., a person at Wellington Station tweeted, "Half-dozen buses just showed up at wellington. Nice work, #mbta."

Another person sent along the attached photo of his foot with the message, "Currently hoofing it from Wellington to Oak Grove. Cattle cars aren't my style."
