LETTER: Bailey Found Safe and Sound in Melrose

On Sept. 17th we emailed or spoke to many of you regarding a lost dog named Bailey. 

Bailey was in a foster home for just a couple of days when he escaped from the yard in Lynnfield. Many volunteers searched for weeks for Bailey in the Route 1, Saugus/Lynnfield area. Many stores in that area were generously keeping their eyes out for him, ready to contact Northeast Animal Shelter if he was spotted. Many let us hang flyers in their windows to help spread the word. Many of you posted on your websites or ran coverage of the search for Bailey.

With the help of Granite State Dog Recovery, many volunteers who continued to search for him, and the call from an incredibly concerned citizen after 3 long months, Bailey is finally safe and sound, back at Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem. 

Bailey was lost near the Salvation Army store in Saugus and was recovered using a humane dog trap near a home in Melrose.

Bailey is exhausted but looks fantastic. His health is being evaluated, so far we have determined that he has Lyme disease. He has what we are calling his own suite being wrapped in big blankets and being hand-fed to encourage him to eat. We will continue to watch Bailey closely for the next several weeks before considering putting him up for adoption.

We would love for you to share the story of Bailey's return. So many people were essential in finding him. It is such a heart-warming story of communities coming together to help this boy and to never give up hope. Many people give up after a period of time when their pet has gone missing. This shows that you just never know and you shouldn't give up.
