LETTER: Support Scott Brown this Election

Resident David Lucas writes in support of the sitting Republican Senator.

To the editor:

I am writing to voice my support for Sen. Scott Brown, in what has become an increasingly important election.

My reasons are simple:  Brown is a fiscal conservative, a social moderate who respects all beliefs and refuses to force his own beliefs on others, and he continues to make a concerted effort to “reach across the aisle” on all important issues before the U.S. Senate.  He actually reads the bill before he votes on it, in order to make the best decision for Massachusetts rather than just get the best sound-bite in the news.

My concern with his opponent is equally as simple:  she has a rigid stance on all issues that simply toes a party line.  In her second debate with Brown, when asked which Republican senator she would work with on big issues, she could not name a single one.  That speaks volumes!

For many decades, the focus of politics and polls has been on the Presidential races, and of course that race will always take center stage on the news.  But one poll has held steady for quite some time:  the public’s disapproval of the U.S. Congress.  Regardless of which party has been in control, the inability (or refusal) of its members to compromise, to meet openly and to interact as colleagues with a common goal has damaged voters’ faith in their government and its effectiveness.  We, and voters in other states, must elect representatives who are willing to work hard together to resolve our problems, not turn their backs on each other out of self-interest.

I believe that Scott Brown has done this and will continue to do so.  I will vote for him on November 6 and I hope you do as well.
