Medford Murder Suspect Arraigned; Malden Officials Spar Over Fire Station

  • A Medford woman at their Exchange Avenue home was arraigned in Superior Court on Monday. Shawntina Burston, 39, of Medford, will remain jailed after being ordered held without bail by Judge Jane Haggerty during the arraignment, according to a press release from District Attorney Gerry Leone. Burston is charged with first degree murder. Burston was previously ordered held without bail by a district court judge on Jan. 31, two days after she allegedly fatally stabbed Troy Burston, father of their two children, following a heated argument and struggle on at their home on Exchange Avenue.
  • Emotions boiled over in Malden at Wednesday night’s Public Safety meeting, where The meeting was contentious, with committee chairman Neil Kinnon and Fire Chief Michael Murphy at odds over the proper reasons for closing the station. The chamber was filled with firefighters, all wearing red shirts, who openly yelled out in anger, defying Kinnon’s repeated calls for order. Audience members could be heard yelling out to Kinnon about his association with the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, which owns the building. Several yelled out for Kinnon to recuse himself from the meeting because they felt he had a conflict of interest.
  • A Wakefield man is in on April 25 at 6:40 p.m. at the Local Gas Station, on the corner of North Ave and Albion Street. Police say that according to witness accounts and security video footage, Eugene Bertini, 37, entered the gas station around 6:40 p.m. wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants. He allegedly pistol-whipped the male attendant and demanded money from the cash register. The victim said he also stole a silver necklace that he had been wearing.
  • Five Guys Burgers and Fries has received conditional approval from the Stoneham Board of Selectmen and the restaurant is . Massachusetts Burger Enterprises representative Marc Magerman came before the board Tuesday night seeking final approval to open their Five Guys location at Redstone Shopping Center on May 9. The board unanimously approved the plan contingent on police and fire departments approval, which is still pending and could push back the opening date.
