Wintry Mix Overnight, Back to Snow Thursday Morning

Four-to-eight inches of snow could fall between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon.

UPDATE—WEDNESDAY AT 4:00 P.M.

Our snowless luck has run out and the projected snowfall total keeps growing.

The latest warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) on Wednesday afternoon now says Melrose could see 4-8 inches of snow with a light coating of ice starting Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. The original advisory issued yesterday warned of 2-4 inches.

The warning will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday.

With fluctuating temperatures, the snow may mix with sleet and freezing rain tonight, the NWS said, before changing back to all snow overnight.

"Snow will fall heavily at times through the evening rush hour before becoming lighter," the NWS warning reads. "Roads will primarily remain wet through the evening commuttee although icy spots will beging to develop. More of an impact is expected for the THursday morning commute due to the combination of snow and slippery roads."

Wednesday should see up to an inch of snow fall during daylight hours and possibly 2-4 inches overnight, according to the forecast.

Winds could also gust up to 20 miles per hour as the storm system moves through the area.
