Stay Cool Today With a A Fire Hose, Extended Pool Hours and More [VIDEO]

Melrose firefighters turned on the hose to cool down kids playing at the Common on Thursday. They'll be back today, as will other ways to stay cool during this heat wave.

Newsflash: It's hot out.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way—seriously, it's hot out. The high temperature will hover near 99 degrees today and the humidity will make it feel as hot as 104 degrees.

  • The Melrose Fire Department will turn on their hoses to help children cool down at from 12:30-1 p.m. (See attached video).
  • The will stay open an hour later than usual today, until 8 p.m. The pool opens at 11 a.m. Admission is free.

"We will have iced tea, cookies and watermelon!" Folopoulos said. "We encourage you to bring something yummy to share but it is not required."

  • Residents are invited by Hallmark Health to , where the cafeteria will be open until 7 p.m. and the main lobby waiting area will stay open until 9 p.m. to give residents a place to cool off.
