Traffic Warning: Construction to Close Portions of I-93, Route 16, This Weekend
MassDOT advises drivers seek alternate routes.
I-93 will be narrowed to two lanes each way from Stoneham to Somerville and parts of Route 16 in Medford will closed this weekend as crews replace bridges there.
This weekend's leg of "Fast14," the Department of Transportation's summer-long rapid bridge replacement program, replaces the northbound I-93 bridge over Route 16. The project aims to replace 14 bridges on I-93 in Medford by September, with a new bridge installed every weekend of the summer.
The closures start 8 p.m. Friday and continue until 5 a.m. Monday. Heavy delays are expected and drivers should seek alternate routes, according to MassDOT. Local Residents should also expect delays on Route 16.
