Winter Activities in Melrose

Check out some of the winter activities planned in the city.

Mayor Rob Dolan and the Melrose Recreation Department invite you to join in a week of winter fun at Mount Hood during school vacation week.

“We have all had plenty of snow over the past few days,” said Dolan. “Now it’s time to get out of the house and enjoy some winter fun.”

Here’s the lineup of activities:

Snowshoe Race: Sunday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. Open to ages 6 to adult. Pre-register online at http://www.cityofmelrose.org/dept_recreation.cfm prior to the race or in person on race day, beginning at 9 a.m..  Fee: $10 in advance or $15 the day of the race. Start at the Mount Hood Club House.

Snowman Building Contest: Build a snowman in your own yard before Feb. 17, or come build one at the Mount Hood Golf Course on Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 3-5 p.m. Free and open to all ages. See the City of Melrose website, www.cityofmelrose.org, for complete rules.

Pond Hockey Tournament (4 v 4): Thursday, Feb. 21, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at First Pond, Mount Hood. For ages 30+. Register by Feb. 14 at the Recreation Office, lower level of City Hall. The tournament is free but each team must put down a $50 deposit. 

Melrose Winter Festival: Thursday, Feb. 21, 12-3 p.m., at the Mount Hood Club House. Get out of the house and help us celebrate winter at Mount Hood. The festival will feature games, activities, entertainment, train rides, balloon animals, music, face painting, ice skating, snow shoeing, trail walking, hot cocoa, s’mores, and a free barbecue. All parking for this event will be at Incarnation Church on Upham St., with continuous shuttle service to Mount Hood from 11:45 a.m.-3:15 p.m. No event parking will be allowed at the golf course.
