Baroque cello & piano concert opens The Beethoven Society's 87th Season

The opening program of The Beethoven Society's 87th season features renowned baroque cellist Jacques Lee Wood and pianist Naoko Sugiyama performing works of Gabrielli, Schubert and Beethoven. Partial funding for this concert was made possible by a grant from the Melrose Messina Fund for the Arts. Free will offering at the door benefits The Beethoven Society's Music Award Fund for students. Reception and refreshments will follow the program. The Beethoven Society welcomes new members. Dues are $15 per year. 
Jacques Lee Wood, a renowned baroque cello chamber musician, is gaining international attention as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician of the highest caliber. He is presently the Early Music Program Coordinator at the Yale School of Music, and is chamber music faculty at the Yale Department of Music and School of Music. He was a top prizewinner at the ARTS Competition and the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. For more information, see www.jacquesleewood.com
Naoko Sugiyama,
pianist, native of Japan, is active as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Japan and the Northeastern United States. She has appeared with the Boston Chamber Music Society, Bargemusic (NY) and the Chestnut Hill Concerts (CT). Since summer 2010, she has been the resident pianist with the North Shore (Boston) Chamber Music ensemble, Music at Eden’s Edge. She has been heard at Jordan Hall (Boston), Goethe Institute (Boston), Suntory Hall (Tokyo), and on WGBH-FM Boston. Sugiyama was a 2005 prize winner in the Krenek Competition of the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition (formerly the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition). In 2007, she performed the world premiere of “Lullaby” by Ned Rorem at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, NYC. Between 2001-2008, Sugiyama served as a member of the faculty at Bowdoin International Music Festival in Maine. She was a faculty member at Longy School of Music of Bard College and is currently teaching at her private studio and the New England Conservatory Preparatory School.
