2013 Melrose Democratic Caucus

The Melrose Democratic City Committee will hold a caucus on Wednesday, February 20th, at the Beebe Estate, 235 West Foster Street, Melrose.

Individuals wishing to run as delegate or vote at the caucus must be registered Democrats in Melrose prior to January 1, 2013.  Our event will open at 6:45 p.m. for registration and doors must be closed at 7:30 p.m. The caucus is open to the press.

The purpose of the caucus is to elect delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s 2013 Platform Convention which has been rescheduled from June to Saturday, July 13th, at the Tsongas Center at UMASS Lowell. The Melrose Democratic Caucus will elect 23 delegates and 21 alternates to the 2013 Massachusetts Democratic Convention. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women. Those not elected as Delegate and/or Alternate, who meet the qualifications, may apply to be add-on delegates in the following categories: youth, minority, and disabled.  Starting this year, the Massachusetts Democratic Party will also hold a Youth Convention for high school organizers.

“At our 2013 convention, the delegates selected by Melrose Democrats will debate and adopt our platform for the next four years, catch up and network with other organizers around the Commonwealth and hear from some exciting future leaders of our party,” said Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh.
